Isoptin - an antianginal medicine related to calcium channel blockers (active ingredient - verapamil hydrochloride). It reduces blood pressure, it is used in arrhythmias, it has an antianginal effect. Under the action of the medicine blocking of the overemembraneous flow of calcium ions into the smooth myocytes of blood vessels and heart is observed. The effect of lowering blood pressure is associated with a decrease in peripheral vascular resistance, and there is no effect of increasing the heart rate in the form of a reflex reaction.

Indications and usage
- Light or moderate degree of arterial hypertension in the form of monotherapy;
- Severe arterial hypertension in combination therapy;
- Angina of prinzmetal (angiospastic);
- Flutter and atrial fibrillation, which is associated with tachyarrhythmia (except for cases of Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome);
- Stenocardia of stress (stable);
- Paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia.
Mode of application
Isoptin is taken orally, without chewing, during or after a meal, with a small amount of liquid, 240-360 mg (the dose is selected individually). With prolonged therapy, the daily dose of Isoptin should not exceed 480 mg. Usually prescribe in the morning to 240 mg. If it is desirable to slow decline in blood pressure, doctors prescribe 120 mg.
Contraindications
Cardiogenic shock, acute complicated myocardial infarction (with bradycardia, hypotension, left ventricular failure), AV block II-III degree, sinoatrial block, weakness syndrome sinus node, heart rate less than 50 beats per minute, systolic pressure less than 90 mmHg and blockade of the sinoatrial node.
The intake of isoptin and isoptin CP240 is not recommended for pregnant women. It is possible to prescribe the medicine after assessing the ratio of "probable risk and benefit from the expected therapeutic effect." If isoptin is necessary to take a lactating woman - breastfeeding is discontinued.
Side effects

Long-term taking of medicine guarantees anti-atherogenous action, prevents thrombocyte aggregation.
Inhibitor of H+-K+-ATP, the dextrorotatory isomer of omeprazole. Reduces the secretion of hydrochloric acid in the stomach by specific inhibition of the proton pump in parietal cells.
